Malton man invited to Royal Garden Party for his work spreading ADHD awareness

A North Yorkshire based presenter, campaigner and community advocate has been invited to attend this year’s Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, hosted by His Majesty King Charles III.

The prestigious event, held in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, recognises individuals from across the UK who have made a significant and lasting impact within their communities through voluntary service. Ryan will be accompanied by his fiancée, Sam Cook. Ryan Swain, a professional entertainer, DJ and host who works extensively across York and North Yorkshire, has been invited in recognition his charity fundraising, voluntary community work and grassroots work supporting young people, families and education settings. The “You, Me & ADHD” campaign focuses on raising awareness of ADHD, Tourette’s and mental health. Through this campaign, Ryan delivers talks, workshops and community sessions across schools, colleges and organisations nationwide. A key part of his work is helping educators, supporting teachers, school staff and professionals to better understand neurodiversity, behaviour and inclusion in the classroom. His sessions help bridge the gap between lived experience and education, equipping staff with real insight and practical understanding that can transform how young people are supported. For many students and families, Ryan’s work is often the first time they feel seen, understood and heard. This October, Ryan is set to undertake a 31 day UK tour visiting more than 69 schools and organisations. Alongside this, Ryan is the founder of Ryedale Skate School, an inclusive community initiative that uses skateboarding as a powerful tool to build confidence, resilience and mental wellbeing in young people of all abilities. He has also played a leading role in grassroots community action, founding and spearheading the “Rescue the Ramp” campaign, which successfully helped save Norton and Malton’s iconic halfpipe, protecting a vital youth space for the local community. Ryan said: “This is an incredible honour and something I’m truly grateful for. But more than anything, this recognition is for the people, the young people, the families, the educators, who trust me with their stories.

"This is about continuing to raise awareness and make a difference where it’s needed most. I am so happy to accompanied by my fiancé Sam who is magnificent person and great help with everything I do within the community and beyond and equally deserves this opportunity.”

The Royal Garden Parties are an important way for members of the Royal Family to speak to a broad range of people from all walks of life, all of whom have made a positive impact in their community.
