Scarborough and Whitby MP Alison Hume elected to influential select committee
Alison Hume, MP for Scarborough and Whitby, has been elected to the influential Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Select Committee - a key parliamentary body responsible for scrutinising government policy across the sector.
A former journalist, TV producer and BAFTA and Royal Television Society Award-winning screenwriter, Ms Hume will bring extensive experience and knowledge to the role, having championed opportunities for young people in the creative industries, stronger copyright protections and improved access to grassroots sport for women and girls since entering the House of Commons in 2024.

She has also worked closely with key stakeholders from her constituency’s tourism sector, which is also included in the committee’s brief.
Ms Hume said: “I'm incredibly proud to have been elected to the DCMS Select Committee.
“As a former journalist, producer and screenwriter, I know just how important our creative industries, media and grassroots sport are to communities across the country.
“Tourism is also vitally important and that’s something which is also a key consideration for the committee.
"This is a real opportunity to be a strong voice for creators, broadcasters, sports clubs and those working within tourism from communities like Scarborough and Whitby.”
Select committees play a vital role in holding government to account, carrying out inquiries, examining evidence and making recommendations that help shape legislation.
The appointment reflects not only Ms Hume’s expertise in the field but also growing profile on issues affecting the creative, community sport and tourism sectors.
Ms Hume added: “From tackling copyright infringement which hits freelancers and others hard, helping tourism, to opening up more opportunities for women and girls in sport, I'm determined to make a positive difference.”
