Street Rocks climbs into its first birthday celebration in Scarborough
Coast and Vale Community Action’s indoor climbing centre, Street Rocks, celebrates its first birthday on Sunday January 18 with a community-powered party.
Street Rocks, the indoor climbing centre created by Coast and Vale Community Action (CaVCA), is marking its first birthday with a special celebration that reflects everything the centre stands for: community, collaboration and the power of people coming together to make good things happen.
The birthday party takes place on Sunday January 18, with a VIP celebration from 2pm, followed by fun for all from 3pm.
The VIP event will thank the climbers, supporters, volunteers and donors who helped Street Rocks’ community raise an incredible £10,000 to install a MoonBoard at the centre — a major milestone made possible entirely through grassroots fundraising and collective effort.
From 3pm onwards, the doors are open for everyone to join the celebrations, with climbing, community spirit and birthday fun for all ages and abilities.
Mel Bonney, CaVCA CEO said: “Street Rocks itself is a living example of what community action can achieve.
“The journey began with a 24-hour climbathon in 2023, which helped build momentum and belief in the idea of a community-run climbing centre which we were able to fund and open one year ago.
“That spirit continued into 2025 with the #ClimbToTheMoonboard climbathon, where climbers quite literally climbed together to reach the £10,000 fundraising goal.
“This birthday isn’t just about marking a year since we opened. It’s about celebrating every person who climbed, donated, volunteered, shared a post or cheered us on. Street Rocks exists because our community believed in it — and that community truly rocks.”
Street Rocks continues to be a welcoming, inclusive space where people of all backgrounds can climb, connect and grow together — proving that when a community pulls together, amazing things can happen.
