Makers of Rye will be showcasing their work over the Easter weekend, Saturday April 4, to Sunday April 5, 10-4pm.
From painting to printmaking, ceramics to textiles and more, this curated exhibition will transform the village hall into an informal gallery setting, where visitors can view and purchase directly from the makers themselves.
Visitors to the exhibition will have a wonderful opportunity to meet and engage with the exhibitors in a relaxed atmosphere, while enjoying a cup of Yorkshire tea and a slice of home-baked cake.
Made up of eight artists living and working around the Kirkbymoorside area, the group is named after the wonderful river Rye, from which the area also takes it’s name.
It is hoped that the new Makers of Rye exhibition will become an alternative channel for artists and makers to engage directly with the public, and that it will build on it’s success to become an annual event.

9. Sarah Cawthray - ceramics
Unique handbuilt ceramic sculptures inspired by nature, Sarah sources her ideas whilst walking in the North York Moors and at the coast. Textural marks tell a story and connect the viewer through touch, evoking a sense of place. It is important to Sarah that each piece is not only looked at but also touched by the viewer; she uses clay slip, oxides and glazes; and incorporates natural elements such as sand, rice, metals and seaweed to create rich pattern and texture heightening haptic responses.
