Youngsters from schools around the Whitby area have been offered a “unique opportunity” to get a glimpse into the exciting world of the maritime industry.

A two-day taster day, run by 54 North Maritime Training, in partnership with Anglo-American, features a line-up of guest speakers from organisations such as the RNLI, Whitby Seafoods, Mainprize Offshore, Whitby Lobster Hatchery, and North-East Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authority (NEIFCA).

Students are being given the chance to visit the lifeboat station and learn about the important work RNLI crew members do to save lives at sea.

They will also get an exclusive tour of the lobster hatchery on Pier Road, to understand the process of sustainable seafood farming.

A sea survival session has also been set up in the pool at Whitby Leisure Centre.

54 North Maritime Training said on its Facebook page: “This event is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain valuable insights and hands-on experience in the maritime industry.”
