The borough authority is planning to bring the Scarborough Spa and Whitby Pavilion back into use when the coronavirus restrictions allow.

The council took back the running of the two venues inhouse earlier this year after it agreed to a termination of its deal with a commercial partner which had been overseeing the operation of the Spa and Pavilion for a number of years.

The venues are currently closed though Whitby Pavilion is being used as a vaccination centre for residents in the north of the borough.

In its residents newsletter the authority has now laid out its plan for the reopening.

It said: “Event and entertainment venues, Scarborough Spa and Whitby Pavilion, back under our management, are taking their first steps towards reopening.

“Following the government roadmap, Scarborough Spa will begin by reopening Farrer’s Bar and Restaurant on Saturday March 27.

“It is hoped step four of the roadmap, no earlier than June 21, will allow the venue to reopen its entertainment areas at full capacity with the likes of Jimmy Carr, Francis Rossi, The Dreamboys, Showaddywaddy and a number of tribute shows already scheduled to perform this summer.

“Whitby Pavilion has announced details of a Covid-19 friendly pantomime of The Wizard of Oz on Friday June 4.”

It is hoped that internal dining can be available from Monday May 17 at the Spa whilst applying the rule of six/two household government rule for meeting inside.
