The A171 road from Scarborough to Whitby and A169 road from Whitby to Pickering is blocked due to the weather.

The A171 road is currently blocked due to snow and there are stranded vehicles on the road.

Other roads in the surrounding areas may also be affected.A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Police said: “The A171 from Scarborough to Whitby is completed blocked by snow and stranded vehicles. Many roads around Whitby are also affected.”

The A169 between Whitby and Pickering is also currently impassable.

Police are urging residents to plan their journey before setting off, and to take extra care if you're on the roads this morning.

There is currently a yellow weather warning in place for the coast for snow and ice. These warnings are in place until Friday December 16.
