'We have no plans to axe Whitby route' - Coastliner reacts to rumours of service withdrawal

The transport company which runs the Coastliner bus service from Whitby to Leeds has quashed rumours that Whitby was being axed from its route.

A commuter contacted us to say the Whitby pick-up had been altered to 11.15am from 11am and that he’d heard “three times today” that the Whitby service was going to be withdrawn.

A spokesman said operator Transdev had introduced “an improved timetable” for the Coastliner network in April, including additional running time across its services in response to increasing traffic congestion and roadworks.

"These changes have resulted in a slightly later arrival time into Whitby for all our services, and so our departure times from Whitby have also changed slightly to reflect this,” he said.

"Our Monday to Saturday journeys leave Whitby Bus Station at 11.16am, 1.16, 3.16 and 5.36pm, with Sunday journeys at 12.16 and 5.36pm.

"We have no plans to withdraw our Whitby route, named Britain's Most Scenic Bus Route in a national poll of bus users."
