Halloween horror show for Whitby Town as they slump to 5-0 home loss against Stockton
Whitby Town endured a difficult afternoon at the Towbar Express Stadium as Stockton Town claimed a comprehensive 5-0 victory, scoring three times inside the opening 21 minutes before adding two more goals after the break.
The Blues had an opportunity to make an early impact, with Stuart Rose seeing an effort cleared off the line in the 11th minute.

Lucas Barnes' low corner was flicked on, and Rose's subsequent attempt looked destined for the net before Stockton managed to scramble the ball away.
However, it was the visitors who made the breakthrough just a minute later.

Whitby failed to close down Kian Foreman on the edge of the penalty area, allowing him the space to curl a superb effort beyond the reach of Henry Popple, making his second debut for the club after returning from Guisborough Town due to Oliver Swan's illness, and give Stockton the lead.
The visitors doubled their advantage in the 15th minute after a costly defensive error. Ben Beals, another second debutant following his Friday move from Spennymoor Town, slipped, allowing Joshua Baggs to race through on goal and calmly convert his one-on-one opportunity.
Whitby looked for a response and came close again from a set-piece. Barnes delivered another dangerous corner, which Beals flicked towards goal, but the ball narrowly evaded James Dillon.
Instead, Stockton extended their lead in the 21st minute. Harley Dawson's ball caused problems in the Whitby defence, and Owen Gallacher was on hand to bundle the loose ball over the line to make it 3-0.

Popple prevented further damage before the interval, holding a header from Gallacher before producing another save to deny Foreman in the 43rd minute.
The visitors picked up where they left off after the restart, adding a fourth just three minutes into the second half. Following a corner, Adam Nicholson reacted quickest to shoot on the turn and find the net.
Things went from bad to worse for the Seasiders shortly afterwards when Dillon was adjudged to have fouled Frank Nouble inside the penalty area. Stockton were awarded a spot-kick, and Nouble made no mistake from 12 yards, sending Popple the wrong way to put the visitors five goals ahead in the 52nd minute.
Whitby searched for a consolation, with Callum Hickman's knock-down finding Rose, whose effort was blocked by the Stockton defence.

There was little doubt about the outcome by that stage, with Stockton having demonstrated their attacking quality and punished Whitby's defensive mistakes throughout the contest.
For Whitby, it was an afternoon to forget, with the five-goal defeat highlighting the importance of being more clinical in both penalty areas as they look to respond in their next fixture at Emley on Saturday, November 7, (3pm kick-off).
