Kittrick's Comment: Players buying into taking the club forward

Saturday's game at Mossley may have been off, but there have been plenty of positives to come out of this week.

A big thing for me was on Tuesday night when five or six of the lads stayed on after training to do extra work.

A few of them have identified that they need to work on their fitness, which is pleasing for Chris Bolder and myself.

Having strengthened our squad in recent weeks and because we are looking to strengthen again, the lads realise that they have to dig in.

The players we are bringing in have the mentality and the professionalism because they have played at good levels of football.

Already you can see the difference during our training sessions and we are only a month in.

As I’ve said before, competition for places is massive and that is what we are creating.

I’m now looking forward to our training session towards the end of the week because we should have 20 keen and hungry lads there.

Now we just have to build on that ethos.

We had a long chat with the lads at training on Tuesday about getting that first win under our belts.

I don’t think it is very far away at all. Once we get our heads in front in a game then the fans will see a completely different Scarborough Athletic.

We have had chances in games, but we have to turn them into goals. Obviously, we are working hard on that.

Our game at Warrington a week ago just shows that it isn’t going to be an easy ride though.

They had Danny Ventre, who played for me in the Conference at Telford and they had four or five other players that have dropped down from the Conference North to play in the Evo-Stik first division.

That is the level of player that you need if you are going to do well at this level and that is the level of player that we’ll be looking at bringing in next season.
