Diego De Girolamo was causing problems for Boro and after beating Josh Barrett in the 35th minute, he fired goalwards but Tommy Taylor was on hand to deny him the opener.

De Girolamo got in behind the Boro defence moments later and after he was dragged down by Taylor, Liam Hardy fired the resulting penalty high into the back of the Athletic net.

Buxton doubled their lead just six minutes into the second half, De Girolamo again winning the spot-kick for Hardy to again fire in from the spot.

Danger man Di Girolamo was at it again 10 minutes later, wriggling free of several Boro markers before slotting past Taylor to make it 3-0 and put the result beyond any doubt for the hosts.

Athletic will be aiming to bounce straight back when they host Morpeth at the Flamingo Land Stadium on Boxing Day.
