In addition to the first-team changes, Luke Jackson has taken on the second-team captaincy for the new campaign.

Thompson, despite last season’s disappointment, is confident in his side to regain their Premier League status at the first attempt.

“Our aim for this season is to bounce back into the Premier League,” Thompson told The Whitby Gazette.

“We’re confident of doing that, with the squad that we’ve got.

“We have made four very good signings already - three top order batsmen and a spin bowler. We also have a couple of players who are considering moves to Mulgrave.

“Just as important is the fact that a couple of important players who were considering leaving for pastures new have decided to stay.”

Last season’s relegation came as a disappointment to Thompson, after successive promotions saw Mulgrave rise through the divisions in previous years.

This season, the all-rounder is looking to reinstill what he believes was missing last season.

“The performance last season, getting relegated to the A Division, was my most disappointing in 27 years in cricket,” Thompson added.

“After working so hard to gain successive promotions to get to where we wanted to be, we lacked heart, desire and commitment, so came straight back down.

“We are definitely looking to put that right this season.”

Mulgrave CC are still looking for new players, with four net sessions left until the start of the new season on Friday evenings 8-9pm, at Caedmon College (Whitby Community College site).
