Denis Thompson earns Man of Match in Whitby Sea Anglers Association League opener
The Whitby Sea Anglers Association members met at Whitby Bandstand for registration on Wednesday October 2 for the first match of the season.
After a group photo members departed to their chosen marks 18.45hrs, writes Peter Horbury.

The tide was already two hours down, NEasterly sea state 6ft, thick with colour, and a brisk NEasterly wind 25mph.
Weed was a problem in the surf, dragging lines down and into more weed. By match end low water marks were just starting to open up, sadly too late as the weigh-in beckoned.

Of the 13 members seven had a weigh-in, including one ‘double-figure’ bag from Man of the Match Denis Thompson, five codlings, 13lb 2oz.
Heaviest Fish of 4lb 5oz fell to Rob Tink Taylor, total catch was 17 codlings for 34 lb 05 oz
On Sunday the members could go straight to their chosen marks.
Low pressure, SEasterly sea state 6ft with little to no colour.
Match started in daylight, an hour before HWater.
A large pod of dolphins were spotted heading south at dusk. Fishing was extremely slow given the conditions and more had been expected.
Even fresh peeler crab baits did not draw the fish in. As forecast the rain started at 19.30hrs for two hours turning to drizzle by match end.
At the scales Jason Ebison oversaw the five successful members from the 11 fishing. 10 codlings, two bleggs, one billet and a rockling, 24lb 10oz.
Man of the Match was Brian Harland with four codlings, 9lb 4oz, his best 3lb 7oz was not good enough for Heaviest Fish of the night.
This fell to Taylor again, 3lb 10oz, who has taken an early lead on the leaderboard.
