Dukes Park Over-60s singles success for North Cliff’s Alan Landers
Improved weather allowed a resumption of competitions with an Over-60s singles at Dukes Park on Friday.
In the first round Bernard Chalk (Bridlington Bay) had a close 21-19 win over Ilkley’s Tony Foster, while Barrie Watson (Borough) won 21-14 against Mally Kay (North Cliff). Geoff Oldham (Hunmanby) cruised through 21-10 against Pauline Allison (Borough) to face Sue Purcell (Whitby) who was challenged by home bowler Bob Brindley but eventually came through 21-20.

Harry Old (Hunmanby) won 21-17 against Ronnie Noble (Borough) to set up a game against Phil Todd who won an all-Hunmanby game against Peter van de Gevel 21-10.
Another Hunmanby player, Alan Kynaston, beat North Cliff’s Robert Child 21-16 to face another Hunmanby player, Sue Holdsworth, who won 21-20 against Tim Purcell (Whitby).
Cliff’s Ian Richardson crushed Keith David (Westgate) 21-8 while Billy Holdsworth (Hunmanby) won 21-7 against David Wright (Bridlington Bay).
Geoff Watson (Whitby) won 21-8 against Mary Kenworthy (Brid Bay) but Alan Landers (N Cliff) was given a scare by David Muir (Eastfield) who came back from 17-7 down before finally losing 21-17.
Home star Chris Dobson won 21-11 against Brian Dalby (Borough) and another home ace Geoff Price 21-16 triumphed against Cliff’s Nigel Trotter.
In the second round the second Ilkley visitor, Richard Garth had a close game but eventually won 21-20 against Larry Dixon (Westgate) to face Barrie Watson who cruised through 21-7 against Chalk.
Oldham also had a comfortable win, 21-11, against Sue Purcell to set up another all-Hunmanby game against Todd who won 21-18 against Old.
Kynaston beat clubmate Sue Holdsworth 21-9 while Richardson won another close game against Billy Holdsworth 21-20. Landers beat Geoff Watson 21-14 while Dobson disposed of Price 21-16.
In the first quarter-final Garth held on to win 21-19 against Barrie Watson to face Oldham who beat Todd 21-12. The other games were also quite comfortable wins with Richardson beating Kynaston 21-13 and Landers going 1 better with a 21-12 over Dobson.
By some irony the two losing semi-finalists, Garth and Richardson, lost by the same scores that they had won their quarter-finals by, Garth going down 21-19 to Oldham And Landers winning 21-13 against Richardson.
The final was a one-sided affair, Landers beating Oldham 21-12.
In the T&B final Peter van de Gevel & Tim Purcell beat Ronnie Noble & Brindley 21-16.
