Horbury and Harland net Whitby Sea Angling Association League wins
The final Whitby Sea Angling Association League match of October, on Wednesday, saw the Doubles Knockout being held.
The sea state was Northerly, 2-3 ft, after Storm Benjamin with plenty of colour.

SWesterly winds 21mph, clear skies as the temperature dropped with a ground frost forming, made for a cold three hours fishing. Fishing the last two hours to top of tide and an hour back. Piers and cliff marks were popular marks of choice.
Swell sets were irregular with both periods of calm and white outs. No reports of weed from the 16 seniors fishing. Yellow and Amber alerts for an aurora but nothing seen with the naked eye.
Man of the Match, the only ‘double-figure’ bag of fish, was Secretary Peter Horbury, with three codlings and a rockling 10lb 3½oz.
His best, 4lb ½oz also took Heaviest Fish of the night.
In the Doubles Knockouts Horbury and Ryan Collinson beat Dave Perrett and Bernard Vasey – 10lb 3½oz (4) to 1lb (1).
October’s Monthly Sweep was won by Davey Turnbull on Wed 22nd with Heaviest Bag of Fish - 13lb 8½oz (4) and Heaviest Fish - 5 lb 5½oz.
October’s catch - 131 whiting, 113 cod, 19 blegg, 17 billet, 7 LSD, 2 flounder, 1 haddock, 1 mackerel and 36 rockling.
November, Sunday’s four-hour evening match had very different conditions from Wednesday.
Sea state was flat calm and colourless, a 30mph SWesterly wind, clear skies, a near full bright Beaver Moon.
Definitely a scratching match, fishing the last 90 minutes of ebb, and two and a half hours of flood it was a hard match, out on the open scaurs it was not easy, no shelter from the cold wind, both bite detection and casting hampered.
Man of the Match was Brian Harland with 8lb 12oz (16), his best a billet 1lb. Heaviest Fish fell to Denis Thompson, Lythe, a codling 1lb 4½oz.
In the Doubles Knockouts Harland and M Saunders beat R Taylor and D Ward – 10lb 1oz (19) to 1lb 11oz (3).
