The gap was still three by end 13 but five shots to Bridlington on the next end made Driffield’s task of a comeback difficult and although they won the remaining four ends they could not stop the Bridlington triple gaining an 18-16 victory.

On the other rink Buckle/Mitchell/Mitchell were involved in a very tight finish with their opponents, 8-1 up after five ends the Bridlington triple stuttered and by end 8 Driffield had drawn to within a shot.

The Alex triple then won the following four ends to lead 13-8 but once again Driffield fought back and by end 14 they trailed by one shot.

Two shots to Alex on the next end extended their narrow lead but Driffield won the remaining three ends to win 16-15.

With an aggregate score of 33-32 in their favour Bridlington took four of the six points available.

In the same league, Bridlington’s B team were playing Leven East Street in Division Two.

Allen/Booth/Talbot found themselves 10-3 down by end 9 but they then went on to win six of the following eight ends to tie the match at 12-12 with one end to go.

Sadly for Bridlington, Leven scored the one shot needed to win the game 13-12.

There was a similarly close game on the other rink.

Although Nicholson/Morgan/Scruton scored five shots on the opening end, Leven came back strongly and only trailed by one shot after five ends.

Bridlington then won 4 of the next 5 ends to lead 9-5 but by end 12 Leven had narrowed the deficit to just one shot.

Four shots over the following two ends extended Bridlington’s lead and by the final end they led 14-10.

The gap was too late for another come back and Bridlington eventually won the game 14-12.

The aggregate score of 26-25 in their favour gave the Alex 4 of the six points available.

The A team were at home to Little Weighton in Division 1 of the Vets League with both rinks being rather one-sided.

Hutchinson/Hobson/McCall led 11-4 after seven ends but by end 10 their opponents had reduced the deficit to just four shots.

Eleven shots over the next four ends opened up a commanding 22-9 lead for the Bridlington team and from here they went on to win the match 24-13.

Buckle/Mitchell/Mitchell went 10-3 up after the first 5 ends but Weighton came back to within three shots by end 8.

The home triple then regained their line and length and went on to win seven of the remaining 10 ends to run out 25-10 winners. All six points to Bridlington.

The B team were playing Beverley 3 in Division E and Allen/Scruton/Philpott had opened up a commanding 14-0 lead after only four ends.

Although Beverley then won five shots on the next end, to give them brief hope, the Bridlington triple went on to win nine of the remaining ends to hand them an impressive 30-10 victory.

Worsfold/Howarth/Dawson were involved in much closer game and after nine ends the scores were tied at 7-7.

Ends 10 and 11 saw Bridlington pick up seven shots but by end 14 Beverley had come to within four shots of them.

Bridlington steadied themselves and went on to win three of the last four ends to gain an 18-12 victory. All six points to Bridlington.

In the second round of the Midweek League games, Bridlington’s A team were at Nafferton B.

McCall/Wray/McCall were 3-1 up after the first two ends but scores of 5, 4 and 6 took Nafferton into a 16-7 lead by end 7.

Bridlington slowly edged back into the game and with one end remaining they trailed by only two shots at 19-17.

One shot to Nafferton, however, was enough to secure them victory.

Buckle/Mitchell/Mitchell went 4-1 down after the opening five ends but by end 11 they led 9-5.

Nafferton pulled one back on the next end but 5 shots on end 13 to Bridlington took them into a 16-14 lead.

Nafferton came back strongly and reduced the deficit to just three shots on end 16.

The Bridlington triple were unphased and won the last two ends with a five and a three to earn victory at 22-11. Four points to the Alex.

Bridlington’s B team were at Brandesburton and by end 6 Watson/Booth/Scruton had built up an impressive 15-0 lead.

By end 11 they were 22-4 up but in a nail-biting finish Brandesburton won all of the remaining ends, only to loose the game 22-20.

Nicholson/Morgan/Talbot led 12-6 after nine ends but their opponents hit back and after end 15 Bridlington trailed 19-13.

Five shots on the following two ends left Bridlington just one shot behind, but a two to Brandesburton on the last end gave them a 21-18 win. Two points to the Alex.

The final game of the week was a semi-final clash with Beeford in the Friday Evening Independent League.

Booth/Morgan/Hutchinson led 7-3 after six ends and 11-8 after 11, but Beeford levelled the match on end 12.

Four shots to Bridlington over the next two ends took them 15-11 up but Beeford came back strongly and won all of the remaining ends to take the game 18-15.

McCall/Hobson/McCall went 9-1 up after only four ends but Beeford won three of the next four ends to trail 9-4.

Bridlington dropped a disastrous seven on end 9 but they came back and led 17-11 by end 12.

With just two ends remaining Beeford came back to within two shots, but three shots to the Alex gave them some breathing space on end 17 and they went on to win the game 21-17.

The final rink saw Buckle/Mitchell/Mitchell 9-4 down after 7 ends and then 15-6 down after 12.

Five shots to them on end 13 gave them a glimmer of hope but Beeford were bowling well and won three of the remaining five ends to record a 21-14 victory.

With the aggregate at 56-50 in their favour Beeford deservedly go through to the final. Good luck from all at Bridlington.
