Perrett nets Whitby Sea Anglers Association League double win

This week’s Whitby Sea Anglers Association League matches were cold, inclement, rain, and strong winds, both of which had an Easterly element.

Wednesday, right from dawn, was a miserable day, inclement SEasterly winds grew in strength all day, gusting 40mph by match start.

Growing NEasterly swell 4-6ft, with little to no colour. The three-hour, all ebb tide evening match started 90 minutes after HWater.

Baiting-up it was clear there was heavy surging that persisted until the outer reefs knocked the edge off the swell sets.

Fourteen seniors and one junior were entered, seven returning with a weigh-in - 11 codlings and one whiting.

Man of the Match was Dave Perrett, Whitby, with three codlings 6lb 7oz, his best 2lb 6½oz.

Heaviest Fish fell to Paul Short, Guisborough 3lb 4oz, his second win.

Sunday saw Easterly seas, 4-6ft with little to no colour.

Easterly winds14-20mph, dry all day until 5pm when the rain started, typical!

Fishing two hours either side of HWater, full cloud cover made for a dark night, and more rain showers to dampen the mood.

For Short, with two fish in the first half-hour, he ‘thought’ he was in for a good night, but not another bite!

There was a little surging but otherwise swell sets were regular, with little to no tow. Some bladder rack in the surf which was manageable.

The flood was slow but the opposite for the ebb, very quick turnaround.

Nine seniors, and one junior fished, of whom, only three seniors had a weigh-in.

Perrett surprised everyone with the first ‘double-figure’ bag of fish, to grace the scales, in 16 weeks.

He had six codlings, his best 4lb 9½oz for 12lb 7½oz, his fifth Heaviest Bag of Fish win.

Heaviest Fish of the night fell to Jason Ebison 6lb 5oz, his second Heaviest Fish win, which now leads for the Dedicated Official Trophy.

Jason was the only mover on the leaderboard, up to eighth place.

Top Five: 1st Brian Harland - 168 fish 126lb 8oz, 2nd Dave Perrett - 90 fish 101lb 8oz, 3rd Dave Ward - 131 fish 84lb 7oz, 4th Peter Horbury - 55 fish 62lb 11oz, 5th Davey Turnbull - 18 fish 57lb 9oz.
