Perrett reels in Harland in Whitby Sea Anglers Association League title race
On Wednesday, the last match of February, the fishing was getting harder, and scratching for whitings helped Dave Perrett’s Whitby Sea Anglers Association League title chase.
Wednesday night, very mild, no rain just brisk SSWesterly winds, and fishing up to high water. Sea state, flat, piers and beaches were marks of choice.
At the scales 21 whitings, three billets, one codling, a haddock, and one LSD (lesser spotted dog fish) - 18lb 12oz.
Man of the Match was Whitby’s Perrett, with 10 whitings, 6lb 3oz.
Heaviest Fish went to Denis Thompson, Lythe, with a 1lb 8½oz LSD.
February’s catch: 119 assorted fish - 177lb 10oz, Av 1lb 8oz, 67 codlings, 40 whitings, 4 rocklings, 3 billets,3 bleggs, 1 haddock, & 1 LSD.
February’s Monthly Sweeps: HBoFish - Jason Ebison - 15lb 15½oz (5), HFish - Mike Saunders - 8lb 6oz.
On Sunday, fishing an all-ebb tide with a flat sea state, bar some very localised SSEasterly swell 1ft, a scratching match for the last eight members left standing.
SSWesterly winds 18-41mph, partial cloud cover to start at dusk.
At the scales 27 whiting, 2 codlings, 1 LSD, 1 blegg and 1 rockling - 23lb 2oz.
Man of the Match, and new championship leader Perrett, 20 assorted fish 13lb 2½oz, now has a lead of 9lb 11oz over Brian Harland, who had led all season.
That is Perrett’s 10th Heaviest Bag of Fish win, and the only ‘double-figure’ bag since February 1.
Heaviest Fish, 2lb 7½oz, fell to Davey Turnbull, Darlington, his seventh Heaviest Fish win.
