Scarborough martial arts champions Jocelyn Dixon wins Inspire Award at Edinburgh
A local martial arts champion, Jocelyn Dixon, has been named as a star PowerPlay Performer winner at the Inspire Awards 2025, hosted in the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh.
Eleven-year-old Jocelyn, who attends Seamer & Irton Community Primary School, joined 22 other inspirational young achievers from across the UK in receiving recognition at the packed awards ceremony, which had a palpable buzz as families, community leaders, and educators gathered to celebrate the nation’s brightest rising stars.
Hosted by the British Youth International College (BYITC), the event brought together families, educators, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and dignitaries, with Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP serving as Chief Guest of Honour and Sponsor.
Also in attendance was Anas Sarwar MSP, leader of the Scottish Labour party.
Dr Rashmi Mantri, founder of BYITC, said the atmosphere in the room was electric: “Jocelyn is a passionate and dedicated martial artist, winning gold at the International Combat Organisation's World Championships in Taekwondo, Karate, and Wushu for three consecutive years.
"This year, she’s added Welsh and English Championship golds to her tally.
“There was a real buzz on the night - pride, joy, and celebration filled the chamber.
"Our young winners have shown talent, perseverance, and creativity beyond their years, while our business leaders demonstrated vision and innovation that inspire future generations. Together, they represent the very best of what Scotland, and the UK, has to offer.”
Jocelyn’s mum, Lisa Dixon, said: “Jocelyn’s determination shines every time she performs.
"The INSPIRE Awards gave her the recognition she needed to feel valued and motivated.
"It was a great event and I would like to congratulate BYITC for providing this wonderful platform to children.”
Already a world champion gold medallist in Karate, Taekwondo and Wushu, Jocelyn has enjoyed a remarkable year, collecting 11 gold medals at top-level competitions including the English, Welsh and Boudica events.
The rising star will be looking to earn more success at the ICO World Championships in Swansea, from October 15 to October 19.
