Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre awarded grant by The National Lottery Heritage Fund
Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre has been awarded a £43,000 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund which will strengthen the documentation, management and care of its museum and archive collections making them easier to use.
The project will enable Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre to produce a full catalogue of the collection for the first time, undertake research and capture some of the stories that accompany the objects and archives donated to the Heritage Centre over the past 20 years.

The grant will also be used to raise awareness of this significant and sometimes overlooked part of Scarborough’s heritage through a programme of activities.
Volunteers will gain new skills and insight in to how to care for museum and archive collections through training and good practice visits to museums across the region, and local community groups will have the opportunity to explore and celebrate the town’s maritime heritage.
As a result of the project, it is envisaged that the Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre will continue to flourish into the foreseeable future.
Mark Vesey, chair of Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre from said: “We are thrilled to have received this support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
“Thanks to National Lottery players the maritime heritage of Scarborough will be more secure and information about it easier to access and use in the future.”
Helen Featherstone, Director, England, North at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, said: “Scarborough is home to such rich and fascinating maritime heritage, so we are delighted to support this project run by the Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre.
