Whitby Hockey Club Ladies earn 1-0 home win against Marton Furness
Whitby Hockey Club Ladies secured a well-deserved 1–0 victory over Marton Ladies in a fast-paced, action-packed encounter, setting the tone early with relentless attacking pressure and backing it up with a solid defensive display.
Whitby were quick off the mark, coming out of the gates with intense forward play that immediately pinned Marton back in their own half.

The early dominance rewarded Whitby with a brilliantly constructed team goal:
Dani initiated the move with a crisp pass out wide to Maiya Shaw, who used her pace to sprint down the wing.

Shaw whipped a precise cross into the top of the D to Nic Kent, who intelligently swept the ball across the face of the goal to find Emily Webster, who applied the cool finish to give Whitby a early 1-0 lead.
Driven by the opening goal, Whitby continued to pile on the pressure in the Marton half, keeping the opposition on the back foot for much of the opening period.
On the rare occasions Marton managed to break forward, Whitby’s defensive line of Dabs, Megan, and Jess Hoggarth was resolute, reading the play expertly and shutting down any potential threat before it could compromise the lead.
The second half picked up right where the first left off, with both teams playing at a blistering tempo.
Whitby moved the ball fluently around the attacking D, creating several dangerous opportunities to double their advantage.
However, Marton’s goalkeeper produced an outstanding performance between the posts, pulling off a series of impressive saves to keep her side in the contest and prevent Whitby from adding to their tally.
Despite Marton’s persistence, Whitby held firm through the final whistle to secure a deserved 1-0 win and a clean sheet, showcasing sharp attacking teamwork and disciplined defending throughout.
