Proudfoot funding for Crossgates Community Centre

Scarborough-based retailer Proudfoot has donated £500 to Crossgates Community Centre via its Making a Difference Locally fund.

Proudfoot director Valerie Aston joined a newly formed group during their monthly catch-up over coffee and cake at the centre to present the cheque.

The centre contacted Proudfoot for funding to help towards developing coffee mornings, a knit and natter group, and other activities for a variety of members of the local community.

Chair of Crossgates Community Centre trustees, Alyson Gregory, said: “The demographics of the area vary in age, but are mostly retired individuals that can easily become socially isolated.

“The Community Centre is endeavouring to fill this need by offering various events. In the first instance a monthly coffee morning, run by volunteers, to raise funds for various local charities, giving local residence somewhere safe and warm to meet and socialise.

“It helps with their mental health as this is often the only social interaction they have.

“We would like to extended the coffee morning to fortnightly, instead of monthly, and introduce other events such as a knit and natter group. Valerie Aston said: “Crossgates Community Centre, in recent years, has been under utalised, but with renewed initatives and drive, offering more opportunities to groups within the local community, it is becoming a busy hub, and the place to be to meet with other likeminded people.

“We are delighted to be able to support their plans going forward.”
