Flamborough RNLI crew’s huge ‘thank you’ as two members retire
Two members of the Flamborough RNLI team have been thanked by the crew after they decided decided to retire.
Martin Myhill and Steve Wood have served the life-saving team for more than two decades.

Martin first joined Flamborough Lifeboat Station on February 6, 2003, at a time when the station’s lifeboat was the Atlantic 75, Jason Logg.
Over the next 15 years, he attended an incredible 99 services, answering the call whenever help was needed at sea.
During those years, Martin met countless people, made some amazing lifelong friends and created memories that will stay with him forever.
In 2018, Martin had to retire from active lifeboat crew duties after reaching the then retirement age of 55. But that certainly wasn’t the end of his time at Flamborough.
After a few years away, Martin returned and got involved on the mechanical side of the station, as well as becoming a tractor driver.
He eventually decided to concentrate on the launch and recovery side of the station, something he thoroughly enjoyed and continued to give his time to.
Looking back on his time at Flamborough RNLI, Martin said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Flamborough Lifeboat Station. I’ve met some amazing people and made some great friends along the way. Now I’m looking forward to retirement and enjoying some more time out on my motorbike.”
Steve joined Flamborough RNLI in February 2016 and has been a hugely valued member of the team ever since. During his time at the station, he has served as Head Launcher, Tractor Driver and Shore Crew, playing an important role in supporting the lifeboat and the wider station team.
On Sunday, September 13, Steve recovered the lifeboat for the very last time, bringing his operational service to a memorable and fitting conclusion.
Reflecting on his time with Flamborough RNLI, Steve said: “It has been a real privilege to be part of the Flamborough RNLI family over the years. I’ve made some great friends, shared some unforgettable experiences and I’m proud to have played my part in helping others. Although I’m stepping away from operational service, I’m pleased that Kim and I can continue supporting the station through the lifeboat shop.”
A Flamborough Lifeboat spokesperson said: “Although Steve has retired from operational service, we’re delighted that he and his wife Kim will continue to support Flamborough RNLI, regularly volunteering at the lifeboat shop at South Landing.
“Steve, from everyone at Flamborough RNLI – thank you for everything you have done over the years. Your contribution, friendship and dedication will never be forgotten.
“From those early days with Jason Logg, through 99 services, mechanical duties, tractor driving and launch and recovery, Martin has played his part in the life of Flamborough RNLI and has helped support the station and its crews in so many ways.
“Thank you for your dedication, your time, your hard work, your friendship and, most importantly, your commitment to Flamborough RNLI and the people who rely on our lifeboat.
“From everyone at Flamborough RNLI, we wish you a very happy and well-deserved retirement.”
