RNLI wristbands helping to keep children safe in Bridlington
The volunteer team at Bridlington RNLI is making people aware of a simple precaution to keep children safe after a youngster was reported missing on the beach.
The RNLI team has received thousands of ‘beach safety paper wristbands’ to give out to parents/carers as an extra layer of protection in case a child goes missing.

All parents/carers have to do is pick up a wristband and write their mobile phone number on them.
The wristbands are available from the RNLI shop next to the RNLI Lifeboat Station and in the King Street shop, RNLI Lifeguard pods, Ritche’s café, and the Foreshore Office on the South Promenade.
Parents then have to take these simple steps:
• Pick up a free wristband from the RNLI Lifeguard unit • Write their mobile number on it • Tell your child to head to the lifeguard unit (look for the flag or find a lifeguard in red shorts and a yellow top if they get separated) • Stay safe and look out for each other
A Bridlington RNLI spokesperson said: “Our volunteer crew were paged to launch late-afternoon on Tuesday, July 7 following reports of a missing child on the beach.
“Thankfully, before the lifeboat reached the water, the child was found safe and well and the launch was stood down.
“It is all so easy to become detached from your little ones on a very crowded beach and can be very distressful for all concerned. However, we can help.
“We have been given 1,000s of wristbands for parents to write their contact telephone number on, and for their children to wear in case they get separated from their families.
“In an emergency, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.”
