Volunteers call to support town’s Poppy Appeal

The local Royal British Legion branch has issued a call for the town to come together in support of those who served as it launched this year’s Poppy Appeal.

This year’s Poppy Appeal officially launched online on Thursday, October 22, with public activities running until Remembrance Sunday (November 8).

Described by organisers as ‘a living act of remembrance’, the annual campaign honours those who died in service of the country.

The local Poppy Appeal Hub at the Anglers Social Club on Friars Way is operating from Monday to Friday, 10.15am to 2.15pm, providing a base for volunteers and a point of contact for local people.

Ros Fox, Scarborough Poppy Appeal organiser, said: “There is a huge amount to do and our volunteers are getting stuck in.

“The Hub gives us somewhere to bring activity together and, importantly, somewhere local people can come for their Poppy Appeal requirements.”

The Scarborough Poppy Appeal team is still looking for volunteers, with opportunities for people to give as little or as much time as can be spared, whether helping at the Hub, preparing materials, or distributing collection boxes and poppies.

They are particularly keen to hear from local businesses, schools, community groups and individuals who would like to support this year’s appeal.

Ros said: “You don’t have to commit to weeks of volunteering. Even a few hours can make a real difference.”

The Scarborough Poppy Appeal 2026 will run through the Remembrance period, culminating in the town’s programme of Remembrance events.

Anyone requiring poppies, wreaths or crosses is encouraged to visit the Hub or contact Ros directly at [email protected].
