New Scarborough cocktail bar bids for later licence just weeks after opening
A recently opened Scarborough cocktail lounge has applied for a new premises licence that would allow alcohol sales until 11.30pm daily.
Swindlers, at 19 Aberdeen Walk, has applied for permission to extend its licensing arrangements following its launch in the former Scarborough Evening News offices in the town centre.
The venue describes itself as a “premium cafe, lounge and bar for grown-ups” serving coffee, lunches, cocktails, wine and whisky.
According to its website, it operates from 8am to 11pm Wednesday to Saturday and from 10am to 10pm on Sundays.
Under the application, alcohol sales for consumption both on and off the premises would be permitted from 10am until 11.30pm seven days a week.
The proposal would also allow live and recorded music indoors until 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 11.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with late-night refreshment permitted until midnight each day.
On New Year’s Eve, the venue is seeking permission to sell alcohol and host music until 2am, with the premises remaining open until 2.30am.
A key part of the application would remove an existing condition restricting use of the premises after 8pm to pre-booked and ticketed events only.
The business opened this month after a rebrand from the Distiller’s Lounge concept.
In a recent announcement, the venue said it aimed to offer “proper cocktails made properly” and announced plans for jazz nights, wine tastings, whisky events, comedy nights and private functions.
The business’s food operation is due to expand next month with plans for brunch, lunch and evening dining.
Anyone wishing to make representations regarding the proposal has until Thursday, November 19, to submit comments to the council.
Comments regarding the application should be sent in writing to: North Yorkshire Council, Licensing Services, Town Hall, St Nicholas Street, Scarborough, YO11 2HG.
