These 16 photos from our archive give a glimpse into the towns’ past from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Some streets still look largely the same and others have changed almost beyond recognition. Which of these sights do you recognise? For other trips down memory lane see our photos of Falsgrave Road and Bar Street from years gone by.
9. Columbus Ravine
The vehicles looked very different in 1976 but there was still a fish and chip shop on the corner of Prospect Road roundabout.
10. Royal Crescent Lane
Tucked away in the little road off Ramshill there were these shops in 1982. Now largely a residential street, a motorcycle and bicycle shop used to be based there. Richardsons is still a business in the town.
11. West Bank
This corner has changed quite a lot since this picture was taken. New flats now stand where the hair stylist was and the Post Office is an accountants. There was no date on this picture - do you know which era it is from?
12. Trinity Road
Taken in February 1967, the road hasnt changed much since this photo was taken. The buildings are all still there, the church has since been converted into flats. However the cars and street lamps show the passing years.
