Glaisdale Pony Club mini quiz team qualifies for National Championships

Glaisdale Pony Club’s mini quiz team has qualified for the Pony Club Dengie National Quiz Final 2026, to be held at Loughborough University on Sunday April 19.

The talented team – Opal, Evie, Pippa, Harriet B-H and top supporter Harriet A – have been preparing since November, dedicating hours to study, training sessions, and interactive learning under the guidance of trainers Kathryn Rollinson and Fiona Atkinson.

Their commitment paid off earlier this year when they secured qualification at the regional competition in March.

In the lead-up to the championships, the team enjoyed a well-earned break thanks to the generous support of Moutreys Italian Restaurant in Whitby.

The restaurant not only hosted the team for a celebratory meal, where they enjoyed a variety of dishes including pizza, lasagne, and calzone, but also presented them with sponsored gilets and polo tops to wear with pride at the national event.

Team Manager Kathryn Rollinson praised the team's achievements following their outstanding performance at the Area Quiz qualifying competition in Wakefield.

Competing against 18 teams, Glaisdale Pony Club secured an impressive third-place finish.

On a national scale, the team ranked fourth out of 55 teams that completed all eight rounds.

“The girls have worked incredibly hard over the past few months, combining study with fun,” said Kathryn.

“To see them perform with such confidence and achieve full marks in two sections – including the charades round – showed great teamwork.”

The qualifying competition tested participants across a wide range of equestrian knowledge through eight challenging rounds.

The Glaisdale team stood out not only for their scores but also for their efficiency, completing one round with a perfect score and time to spare – an achievement matched by only one other team.

With one final revision session remaining, the girls will soon travel from Whitby to Loughborough University to compete against the best teams from across the UK.

Glaisdale Pony Club extends its sincere thanks to Moutreys Italian Restaurant for their generous sponsorship, as well as to all supporters who have contributed to the team’s journey so far.

Quiz training will resume later this year, and Glaisdale Pony Club welcomes new members interested in joining future teams.
