Orphaned Seal in Scarborough receives unusual Yorkshire Tea treatment for eye infection
An orphaned seal pup that was rescued on the North Yorkshire coast has received crucial treatment from a surprising source.
Two-month-old female seal, affectionately named Frank Ocean, was recently discovered abandoned on the Redcar beach by a walker.

The British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) attended the scene and rescued the seal. While at the BDMLR unit, she was found to be suffering from a series of issues and was transferred to Scarborough SEA LIFE Centre for treatment.
Currently residing at a specialist seal hospital at Scarborough SEA LIFE Centre, Frank whose favourite treats include herring, has been undergoing a unique type of treatment recommended by vets, daily eye baths administered using chilled tea.

After hearing of the nature of Frank’s issue and the treatment needed to treat her, well known tea experts, Yorkshire Tea, based in Harrogate, threw their support behind Scarborough SEA LIFE Centre, donating over 1000 tea bags, to support Frank’s treatment.
The young orphaned seal is, whose favourite food is herring, continues to receive care as she recuperates and is expected to make a full recovery.
Once her treatment is complete, Frank will be successfully released back into the wild.
Lousia Godley, assistant brand manager at Yorkshire Tea said: “We’ve heard of our products being used in all sorts of innovative ways, but this might be one of the most rewarding.
“When the team at Scarborough SEA LIFE Centre told us that our tea bags could help with little Frank’s recovery, there was no hesitation to offer our support.
“We’re delighted to have been able to play just a small part in helping the seal hospital at the SEA LIFE Centre in the wonderful work they do, and we hope to see Frank make a full recovery.”
Kieran Wade, Operations Manager at SEA LIFE Scarborough said: “We always welcome the support of local companies and were delighted to receive the help of Yorkshire Tea with this case.
"Just like her namesake, Frank is a superstar who deserves the best treatment and the opportunity to live a full and happy life in the wild. She has given Yorkshire Tea the seal of approval.”
