Terrington Hall Prep School near Malton meets every required standard in ISI Inspection

Terrington Hall Prep School near Malton passed its latest inspection with flying colours, meeting every standard set by the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

The ISI inspectors recognised the nurturing ethos of the school, based in the Howardian Hills near Malton, along with its effective teaching, strong safeguarding culture and commitment to pupils’ personal development and wellbeing.

In a glowing report, they found that the school meets the key Standards for leadership and governance, education and recreation, pupils’ health and wellbeing, social and economic education, contribution to society, and safeguarding.

The inspectors said: “Governors and leaders promote pupils’ wellbeing through the school’s nurturing ethos and by upholding the school’s values, kindness, confidence, growth and courage.”

He added: “The inspectors’ findings reflect the values, commitment and hard work of everyone within our school community.

"To have met all required standards is impressive, and I’m particularly proud that our nurturing focus and supportive relationships between staff and pupils was highlighted.

Its outdoorsy culture, no phones policy and focus on community and kindness helps to preserve its ethos of allowing children to be children.

The inspectors noted that the school’s nurturing nature begins in the Pre-School and Reception classes, where “the warm and caring learning environment enables children to learn and play happily,” and they “develop the skills, knowledge and attributes to prepare them well for the next stage of their education.”

The report added: “Breaktimes are happy occasions,” and “inappropriate behaviour seldom happens.”
