Whitby Musicals on lookout for cast of 12 performers to star in Come From Away production in summer 2027

A Whitby amateur dramatics group is on the lookout for a cast of 12 performers to star in a production due to take place at Whitby Pavilion next summer.

Whitby Musicals wants a cast of six male identifying and six female identifying, aged 17-plus, to appear in Come From Away – a heartwarming musical based on the true story of what happened in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

When US airspace was closed, 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers were diverted to Gander, doubling the town’s population overnight.

The local residents opened their homes, shared their food and resources, and offered comfort and friendship to the stranded travellers.

Through stories of kindness, fear, humour and unexpected connections, the musical explores how strangers from different backgrounds came together during a time of crisis.

At its heart, Come From Away is a moving celebration of human kindness, community and the power of compassion in the face of tragedy.

The show will be directed by Chris Wales with musical direction from Cathy Hornung and movement direction by Rosie Abel.

Come From Away was the winner of four Olivier awards.
