The proceedings will include readings from the commanding officer of RAF Fylingdales and a member of the RNLI, alongside a musical interlude and a reading of the First World War poem In Flanders Fields.

An Air Cadet will then recite the Ode of Remembrance: “They shall grow not old, as we grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”

The Last Post will sound at 10.59am, followed by the two-minute silence at 11am. Reveille will be played at 11.02am, before the Whitby Branch Royal British Legion chairman reads the words: “When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today.”

A formal wreath-laying ceremony will follow, accompanied by music from the lone piper.

Those attending will then join in singing the National Anthem.

Following the ceremony, veterans, Sea Cadets, Air Cadets and school representatives will be dismissed, while REME personnel will march to Heroes Bridge.

The Mayor of Whitby will thank those attending and remind the public of a further religious service at St Mary’s Church at 2.30pm.

The Mayor will also meet veterans at the Angel Hotel following the ceremony.
