Flixton hang on to beat Ebberston by two runs in Harburn Cup final thriller
Folkton & Flixton CC held their nerve to win a thrilling Linda Goulding Memorial Harburn Cup final against Ebberston CC by just two runs at Scarborough CC’s North Marine Road ground on Friday evening.
Flixton skipper Connor Stephenson won the toss and chose to bat in the Scarborough & District Evening League top-flight final, with openers Will Hutchinson and Harry Walmsley putting on 79 runs for the first wicket.

Hutchinson struck nine fours in his 40-ball stay at the crease, Walmsley hitting four fours and a six in his 35.
James Boyes then snapped up 3-38 to wrestle the momentum back in Ebberston’s favour as Flixton’s innings closed on 149-9, Cam Anderson (11) the only other player to reach double figures for Flixton.
Sam Hardie also impressed with a handy 2-29, Joe Dunnett also taking a wicket and keeper Ben Lockey snapping up three run-outs.
Dunnett departed early, then Jonty Megginson was dismissed for 17 but the third-wicket pair of opener and former Flixton player Jake Hatton (69 in just 35 balls, including six fours and four sixes) and Lockey (37), putting on 91 in 8.3 overs, looked to have the game well in hand with 14 required from 13 balls to win the final.
But Marley Ward took a terrific 3-16 from his two overs at the death to give Flixton a dramatic last-ball win, Charlie Colley also snapping up two wickets and Lewis Chipchase the other as Ebberston ended up agonisingly short on 147-6 from their 14 eight-ball overs.
