Boro’s Commercial and Marketing Manager Ree Hunt is the heartbeat of the club

As a wholly fans-owned club, competing in National League North against several full-time clubs, and others with big financial backing in the form of wealthy owners, Scarborough Athletic FC have just one full-time employee, Commercial & Marketing Manager Ree Hunt.

Nafferton-born Ree joined the club a short time after Jono Greening was appointed as manager in May 2021.

She joined the club in a part-time role, while undertaking her Masters Degree in Global Marketing at York University just as the Covid 19 pandemic was coming to an end, completing her degree, with distinction, later that year.

Prior to that, following graduation from her undergraduate degree, Ree was a full-time fundraiser at St Catherine’s Hospice for five years, working with local businesses and sponsors in Scarborough, organising marketing events and fundraising activities.

She then worked as Events and Marketing manager at the Crown Spa Hotel (just as Covid hit), and had a short spell in a similar role at McCain Foods.

Ree remembers being interviewed for the Boro job by the club’s board of directors, and says she has loved every minute of the past five years that she has been with the club.

Before being appointed to the role, she had little interest in football, although she was aware of Scarborough Athletic FC, because her dad is a long-time supporter and season-pass holder.

Her (and manager Jono’s) first season at the club saw the team promoted from the Northern Premier League, and she was then appointed full-time to run the club’s off the field affairs, while the club secretary Jack Fewster deals with playing matters.

Ree’s responsibilities are wide ranging and varied, from liaising with over 100 sponsors, volunteers, and advertisers, organising the club website and social media platforms, organising and managing kit and equipment (first team, academy and retail), compiling the match-day programme, pre-match hospitality, arranging fundraising events and dealing with media and all off the pitch enquiries.

Since the club’s promotion to National League North she has attended every home and away match, league, cup or friendly, and she loves the day to day involvement and the family atmosphere at the club.

It’s not a 9 to 5 job, and every day is different. She recently had a three-day break, and when she got back to work, there were 100 emails waiting for her attention.

Her people-skills and vast experience of marketing and events management have been invaluable, and she is widely admired by everyone at the club.

Chairman Trevor Bull says of Ree, “Appointing her and Jono are without doubt the board’s best ever decisions while I have been club chairman.

"She does a wonderful job, and is so competent and professional at whatever she does. She is the heart-beat of our club.”

Manager Jono Greening adds: “Ree is the glue that holds everything together. What she does behind the scenes is priceless.

"She’s always there to support me, my staff and my players, no matter the problem, big or small. We’d all be lost without her.”
