Pier aiming for quadruple joy in their 40th season

Pier are favourites to regain the first division crown, and tackle Stokesley Sports Club in the North Riding County FA Saturday Challenge Cup final on Wednesday night.

That showpiece is the first of three finals before they tackle Seamer for the Harbour Cup and Kirkbymoorside in the District Cup.

“To win any trophy is great, but to go on and win four would be really special, especially in our 40th season,” said manager Andy Spivey.

“The club have won a few doubles, but the last time we won three was in the 1990/91 season when we won the League, Harbour and District cups.

“We’re having a re-union in May and to take four trophies along would be fantastic.”

Spivey knows side face a tough challenge against Eskvale & Cleveland League side Stokesley on their own patch.

He added: “It’ll be a tough game. I’ve done a bit of digging and they seem to be a bit of a Jekyll-and-Hyde side.

“They beat Dormanstown, who we beat 5-0, 12-0, but then lost 4-2 to them.

“We’ve done well so far in this cup and there’s no reason why that can’t go on.”

Pier beat Colwyn Town 7-1 and Dormanstown 5-0 before beating York Uni 7-2 and Whitby Fishermen 4-1 to make the final, and they’ll be hoping prolific striker Billy Logan can continue his superb run of form to fire his side to the win.

“Billy has scored 44 goals in 22 games this season and it’s made a huge difference, and Martin Cooper also has 26 from midfield,” said Spivey.

“We have more of a goal threat than the last time we played in this final.”
