The hosts took the lead through a Christian Reddish penalty after he had been fouled in the area, but Goalsports earned a deserved leveller with a cracking shot from Mike Beeby, keeper Gaz Maw having pulled off several fine saves in the first half to deny the Goalsports forward, who was a constant menace.

The points seemed to be heading to Andy Thorpe's visiting side when a penalty from Paul Oldroyd, who started the season with Ayton, and a strike from the same player made it 3-1, Paul Fergus adding a fourth for a rampant Goalsports.

With less than 20 minutes left it looked beyond Ayton to come back, but Chris Milburn set up Reddish to make it 4-2 a couple of minutes after Fergus' strike.

Right-back Andy Bloomfield's long pass sent Reddish clear to complete his hat-trick and give Ayton hope, with a cracking finish from Milburn pulling the scores level.

With only five minutes left super-sub Dan Bywater crossed for fellow club stalwart Tim Hick to send a glancing header into the corner of the net and complete the stunning comeback.

Reddish and Oldroyd were the men of the match for Ayton and Goalsports respectively but left-back Jaymaine White also put in a superb shift for the victors.

Another high-scoring encounter saw Itis Itis Rovers win 8-4 at home to Scalby Reserves to move into second spot, player-boss Mikey Barker smashing in five goals for the hosts.

Curtis Rose (2) and Josh Young also notched for the hosts with centre-back Neil Forsyth their man of the match.

Jack White scored twice for Scalby, who trailed 5-0 at the interval, with Taylor Jordan and James Ledden (penalty) also on target for the villagers, for who Max Edwards and Dan Wedge shared the man-of-the-match award. Scalby played the final 15 minutes of the match with only 10 men after Ledden walked off the pitch after an off-the-ball incident.

Sherburn remain top of the table after a 6-1 win at Commercial.

Steve Parker scored from close-range just before half-time to put the villagers in front, but five minutes into the second half Chris Millson levelled for the home side.

On the hour mark, Sherburn man of the match Paul Mills put his side in front, then this lead was doubled with a bizarre strike, Matty Whitehall's clearance on the halfway line somehow evading the grasp of the Commercial keeper and slipping into the net.

Sub Gary Tyson netted with his first touch to make it 4-1, fellow sub Liam Scott volleying in a fifth from six yards and utility man Carl Sample scored to make it 7-1 from the edge of the box after cutting in from the left wing.
