Surgenor earns victory for Beckett Division 1 high-flyers Kirkdale at Goldsborough

Beckett League Division One leaders at the start of the weekend, Kirkdale United, made their first visit for many a season as visitors to newly-promoted Goldsborough on Saturday.

After an even opening quarter-hour confusion in the Kirkdale backline resulted in a penalty award for the hosts, which Goldsborough talisman Ben Watson duly dispatched out of reach of keeper Shaun Suffield.

The young United side were not deterred and five minutes later were level, captain Euan Surgenor unceremoniously upended inside the home box as he attempted to play the ball, Fin Burbidge finishing with aplomb.

Both sides threatened without producing anything concrete until the final quarter of an hour when a Liam Ward trademark run from midfield was eventually stopped illegally 20 yards out. From the resultant Burbidge free-kick Surgenor met the low ball to swivel and tap the ball home.

Despite this win, United slipped to second on goal difference behind West Pier after their 6-0 home win against Thirsk Falcons.

Thornton Dale drew 1-1 at home to Danby.

Morgan Elven gave the hosts the lead in the final minute of the opening half, Matthew Nesbitt responding for Danby on the hour.

Lealholm Reserves travelled to Snainton where Mackenzie Pllu gave the hosts the advantage just after the half hour.

John Ventress equalised going into half-time. Lealholm made the most of the break with two second-half goals from Sam Russell and Lucas Theaker.

Mark McNulty then found the net for Snainton, only for Russell to score again a minute later making the final score 4-2.

Ryedale are the new Division 2 leaders as they, and Brody Norton-Hunter in particular, continued their recent fine form this time with a 3-0 win against travelling Amotherby & Swinton Reserves as the in-form striker scored all three goals.

Bagby & Balk had a welcome sniff of sea air as they defeated hosts Fishburn Park Academy, Reece Windle and Kyle Pounder finding the back of the net for the Hambleton travellers.

Sinnington hosted Edgehill Development at Friars Hill and though the hosts went ahead midway through the first period courtesy of Archie James, two crazy second-half minutes just after the hour found the visitors turning the tables as Bobbie Cappleman struck twice.

Sinners were grateful to the consistency of marksman Jordan Anderson, his scuffed finish rescuing a point for the early season promotion hopefuls.

Heslerton Development continued their climb up the table as they saw off visiting Slingsby.

Though Rio Howden found the back of the net for the visitors, second-half strikes from Joshua Wade and Lewis Tillotson were enough to gain victory.

Sleights got among the goals at home to Ampleforth with both Kieran Storr and Mason Abbott scoring.

Sadly, two was never going to be enough as Alfie Nicholls grabbed a brace, with Ed Fawcett and Colin Casey also on target for the visitors.

In The Gordon Harrison Memorial Trophy match Goal Sports had an afternoon to forget against Division One opponents Whitby Fishermen’s Academy.

An early goal for Liam Vasey was as good as it got before trebles from both Junior Chambers and Sam Brown and a Toby Wilkinson finish sunk Goal Sports.
