Scarborough sparkle against Beverley but Wigginton win York Racquetball League title by a point
In their third York and District Racquetball League campaign Scarborough competed well against teams from Malton, Beverley and Wigginton, the title race going down to the wire.
In the final game of the season Beverley came to The Silver Royd Squash Academy needing just 7 points to take the title for a third year running.

Sporting the new squad shirts, the team of John Fuller, Ben Squires and Mark Squires had plans to spoil the party against opponents they knew well.
Mark, at 3rd string, went 1-0 up but soon fell 2-1 down, a gritty attitude and a more patient 4th and 5th game saw him win 3-2.
Ben was up next, playing a far more experienced player.
Ben's fitness and variety of shots proved too much for his opponent as he ran out a 3-1 winner.
Beverley's title hopes were now pinned on their number 1 who needed to win to secure the title.
Beverley's John Cook took on Scarborough's No 1 Fuller.
The crowd settled for what is often a long and closely contested encounter.
Fuller went 2-0 down but Cook had put a lot of effort in to get here.
Fuller won the 3rd then the 4th and could clearly see his opponent was tiring.
A very long rally to start the 5th suited Fuller and though he was soon down in the game worked his opponent around the court and ran out a 3-2 winner, the match taking well over an hour.
The dejected Beverley team conceded Scarborough had played well and the title was handed this season to Wigginton.
The league table showed Wigginton on 46 points with both Scarborough and Beverley on 45.
Like squash, racquetball is on the up on the Scarborough Academy courts.
