Testing times for Whitby Sea Anglers Association League members
Fishing for the Whitby Sea Anglers Association League season has hit rock-bottom.
The matches on Wednesday and Sunday night produced two of the poorest weigh-ins to date.

On Wednesday night a flat sea state, no colour, SWesterly winds, fishing up-and-over high water 9.17pm on a neap tide.
Another scratching match for the six members fishing.
At the scales only two members, Dave Perrett and Peter Horbury, from six, had a very meagre weigh-in, the poorest weigh-in of the season, just two whitings between them for 1 lb 8 oz.
Man of the Match was Perrett, 13 oz for both Heaviest Bag of Fish and Heaviest Fish.
On Sunday conditions continued to be poor for fishing, and enthusiasm to go was at a low.
Match start, a yellow alert for an aurora just after 6pm but nothing visible to the naked eye. Flat sea state with the occasional Northerly set 1ft.
Water was clear, green to the eye in daylight. A starry night until 8pm when it clouded over for an hour. WSWesterly breeze, a cold evening, 3°C, which was felt on wet fingers. At 9pm the cover blew over.
Man of the Match was Brian Harland, Whitby, with 2 whitings 1 lb 3 oz, his best 10 oz, took Heaviest Fish of the night.
Incidentally his 10 oz whiting is now ‘The Lightest Fish to win Heaviest Fish of the night - in line for the Wooden Spoon award on Presentation night.
Harland has held this accolade all season since Sunday December 14 2025 with a 12½ oz whiting.
