To close the concert the orchestra performs Aaron Copland’s beloved masterpiece, Appalachian Spring. The uplifting and deeply human work incorporates the timeless Shaker hymn Tis a Gift to be Simple.

Shaun Matthew said: “This programme feels deeply personal to me – it’s about resilience, hope, and the power of community.

“From Margaret Bonds’ moving tribute to Martin Luther King, to the joyous brilliance of Nathan Daughtrey’s concerto, and the heartwarming simplicity of Copland’s Appalachian Spring, the concert celebrates both where we’ve come from and where we’re going.

“It’s the perfect way to mark my 20th anniversary with this incredible orchestra and I can’t wait to share it with our audience.”
