‘Back To The Seaside’ with New Model Army at Scarborough Spa
A poster featuring an unusual aerial view of the Scarborough Spa complex from above the sea looking inland announces the forthcoming appearance of New Model Army headlining the latest in New Wave/Post-Punk packages of bands to appear at the venue.
Following the ‘A Beautiful Day At The Seaside' event last year led by The Levellers, titled ‘Back To The Seaside’, the poster features a second version of a specially commissioned in-house photo illustrating the full seafront extent of the Spa complex, taken by David Ruston Photography.
Supported by indie/alternative outfit Ned’s Atomic Dustbin and both the returning Kirk Brandon-led Spear of Destiny and Bar Stool Preachers, as of 2024, New Model Army features founder and mainstay Justin Sullivan with drummer Michael Dean, guitarist and keyboards player Dean White, and bassist Ceri Monger.
The first English Civil War-inspired named band who originated in Bradford in 1980, has utilised a varied hybrid of musical influences from punk, folk and soul to metal and classical over their expansive 45-year+ career.
Their 18th studio LP titled ‘Unbroken’ was released in January of 2024.
The Scarborough date is part of a busy summer touring schedule that has also seen the band support the Patti Smith Quartet in Istanbul earlier this year in May.
With continuing alternating UK and Continental tours, Justin Sullivan and Dean White embark upon several European dates commencing in October prior to a series of pre-Christmas shows in December.
Other similar multi-band, festival-type events at Scarborough Spa have included two appearances by former Joy Division/New Order founder Peter Hook and his band The Light with the ‘Interzone’ series of line-ups which previously also included Spear of Destiny last year.
October sees further alternative music with the venue presenting late 80s indie bands The Wonder Stuff accompanied by Inspiral Carpets on Friday, October 2.
New Model Army, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, Spear of Destiny and Bar Stool Preachers appear at Scarborough Spa Grand Hall on Saturday, August 29. Doors open from 4pm.
