Annual open exhibition attracts record entry of 685 entries - 100 of the best go on show at the Old Parcels Office at Scarborough Railway Station
The fifth annual Old Parcels Office Open, Scarborough’s flagship open art exhibition, opens at the art space later this month.
This year’s exhibition attracted a record number of submissions from artists across the UK. From 685 works submitted, 100 artworks have been selected for exhibition, reflecting the exceptional breadth and quality of entries received.

This year's selectors are:
Dr Kerry Harker, a curator and researcher based in Leeds who has worked at Harewood House, Impressions Gallery, Bradford, The Hepworth and Saatchi Gallery in
London.
Gordon Dalton, an international artist based in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, who is a doctoral researcher at Loughborough University and a leading member of Contemporary British Painting.
Sally Gorham, chair of Scarborough Studios CIO, the arts charity that runs the Old Parcels Office.
Sally said: “We want to thank all the artists who entered this year’s open competition.
“We would normally select around 80 works, but the range and quality of submissions this year was so strong that we increased the number to 100.
“Even so, this meant that some truly excellent work could not be included.”
In keeping with the aims of the Old Parcels Office Artspace, the exhibition showcases an exciting and diverse range of art practice.
The selected works span painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics and textiles, offering visitors the chance to see a rich and varied range of contemporary visual art.
The artists started arriving at the end of January to hand in their work and since then Old Parcels Office trustee Rob Moore and a dedicated team of volunteers have been nstalling the art works ready for the opening of the show on Saturday February 14.
The winner of the Old Parcels Office Open Prize and other winners will be announced at the opening of the exhibition between 2pm and 4pm.
A Visitors’ Choice prize, which will be given for the most popular work as voted for by visitors, will be awarded at the end of the exhibition.
