Marmalade Atkinson book tour comes to Filey after Bridlington sell-out event

Local author Marmalade Atkinson has been overwhelmed by demand for her debut children’s book, selling out at signings across the country ahead of her appearance at Filey Library.

Marmalade Atkinson, (real name Sarah), is no stranger to Yorkshire having attended St John’s York University, before heading off to London to become a photographer for Blur, Paul Weller, Oasis and the Darkness amongst others. When Marmalade hung up her camera and changed career from taking photos of pop and rock groups to become a children’s writer she never expected to be selling out of her books at her signings.

From Scotland to Kent, bookshops have sold out of her first title, The Sleepless Nights of The Boy with No Eyelids.

Her tour of Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire kicked off at Mighty Lancer Games in Bridlington. What was scheduled to be a two hour signing ended up being an all day event as customers came from far and wide to have their books signed. In the final hour, Marmalade ran out of books.

Marmalade said: “I never expected so many people to want to buy my book. I was helped out by my children who stood at the shop door showing customers copies of the book as they came in. I am really looking forward to visiting Filey Library as part of my tour.

Marmalade will be appearing at Filey Library for a children’s workshop and author talk on Frida, August 28 at 1pm. Tickets are available from Filey Library and are priced at £10, including a free signed copy of her book, which normally costs £20.

Her publishers, Markosia, are looking to partner with an international publisher to help with the demand for her first book and the sequel due out later in the year.
