Scarborough Seahawks raise nearly £2,700 with coastal walk challenge
Members and supporters of Scarborough Seahawks Basketball Club have raised £2,694.74 after completing a 25.86-mile sponsored coastal walk from Filey to Robin Hood’s Bay.
Twenty eight people ranging in age from seven to 49 took on the trek.

While the route was split into smaller sections for some, to ensure the challenge was inclusive for all ages and fitness levels, a core group of 11 walkers completed the entire distance in approximately eight hours and 40 minutes.
The funds raised will be split equally between the Scarborough Seahawks and the national charity Mind, which provides vital advice, resources, and support to individuals experiencing mental health problems.

Explaining its decision to support the charity, the club said: “We believe sport isn't just about physical health, it's about community, connection and mental wellbeing too.”
The Seahawks, the only basketball club operating on the East Coast, will use its half of the proceeds to replace a broken scoreboard, which has been non-operational for some time.
The organisation hope the new equipment will benefit all levels of the club, from its Friday youth development sessions for ages six and up, to its Under-14 national league team, Under-16 regional league team, and premier league men’s team.
The funds raised from the challenge exceed its original £1,500 target, aided by contributions from sponsors BR Asbestos Limited and MKN Surveyors Ltd.
Walkers also received a boost along the way from participants in the Hardmoors Race Series, who offered encouragement and donated to the cause.
