Producers from the smash-hit show will visit the town next month, to scout out talent for the 2015 series.

Although Simon or Cheryl won’t be in town, the public will be allowed their shot at stardom by belting out a number in front of shoppers at the Brunswick Centre.

Smaller event will be held at the university to try and find the town’s best singers, with the best from both auditions performing in front of judges and talent scouts at an event at Quids In.

“There’s some absolutely incredible talent in this town, and we want the best of that to go before the judges at Quids In,” said Mike Lynskey, who along with Tony Viney and Carl Sellars helped bring the show to the town.

“We want to get about 20 to 40 of Scarborough’s best singers in front of them, so we can have a real shot at winning the competition.”

Those who impress at the local audition will have a chance to head to Leeds for the next stage, where they could be picked to sing before the judges.

Those include Simon Cowell, who in a statement, added:” “If you think you have the potential to be a world-class star, this is your chance to prove it.

“You really could be the next pop superstar.”

The Scarborough leg of the public auditions take place on Sunday April 5 and Monday April 6, and are part of a huge 50 date tour around the country.

Those auditioning are being urged to turn up early, as mobile auditions are done on a first come first serve basis.

Scarborough’s biggest X-Factor success to date was Belle Amie’s Sophia Wardman.

She made it through to the 2010 live finals, before being voted off in the fourth week.
