Boulby Mine near Whitby backs 1,100-mile challenge cyclists with £5,000 donation

Two men who are cycling more than 1,000 miles from the north of Scotland to the Cornish coast stopped off at Boulby Mine where they received a welcome £5,000 donation to the good cause they are supporting.

Paul Freeman (formerly of Komatsu) and Dom Barraclough from Finch Consulting are currently undertaking an incredible 1,100-mile cycling challenge from Aberdeen to Falmouth over 14 days.

Their journey, known as MineCycle, is raising vital funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Children’s Charity, supporting the development of a new Children’s Cancer Centre.

Along the way, Paul and Dom are travelling through Britain’s rich mining heritage, visiting active sites from zinc and polyhalite mines in the North East to lithium and tin operations in the South West.

Their mission is not only to fundraise, but also to inspire the next generation by promoting careers in mining and highlighting the industry’s important role in communities and the UK economy.

They stopped at Boulby Mine to meet the team where they were joined on the road by Andy Harvey and Mark Goy.

During the visit, they received a "fantastic” £5,000 donation in support of their cause, alongside a warm welcome and encouragement from colleagues across site.
