The nautically themed establishment is rated as the second-best restaurant in Filey on TripAdvisor, where the long-running business has a score of 4.8 out of five.

“We are a local family-run business offering the warmest of welcomes to all of our visitors. We pride ourselves on the finest home baking and freshly made breakfasts, brunch, lunch and afternoon teas served in the heart of Filey, a jewel on the Yorkshire coast,” the business’s website states.

If the new pavement licence proposal is approved, the tea room will get permission to keep three tables and six chairs at 44 Belle Vue Street, Filey.

The proposal is currently open to representations from members of the public.

The business is “proud to source the majority of our ingredients locally, with bacon, cooked meats, crab, prawns and vegetables all sourced from local businesses in Filey”, while its cakes and scones are “freshly baked daily and our menu can be enjoyed in the warmth of our traditional tea room, at one of our outdoor tables or on the move”.

Commenting on TripAdvisor, a recent customer said: “What a gem and Emma could not have been more helpful. We enjoyed honest, wholesome food freshly prepared which was delicious. If you’re after traditional fare rather than fish and chips, this is the place to go. All served with a smile.”

Following a visit last month, another customer commented: “We have always received a warm welcome from Emma and her staff.

“This year though, they went one step further and surprised my partner on his 70th Birthday by bringing him cake after our breakfast and singing Happy Birthday to him – even the customers joined in with the singing. The best start to a birthday.”

The deadline for members of the public to comment on the pavement seating plans is Tuesday, September 15.

Anyone wishing to make representations regarding the application should give notice in writing to: North Yorkshire Council, Licensing Services, Town Hall, St Nicholas Street, Scarborough, YO11 2HG.
