Relegated Bridlington CC end season on a winning note

Skipper Casey Rudd struck a sparkling century as Bridlington Cricket Club’s first team ended a miserable Yorkshire Premier League North Premier Division 2 season on a high note with a 19-run win at home to Sessay.

Visiting skipper Mark Jackson won the toss and chose to field first, and his counterpart Rudd took full advantage of batting first on the Dukes Park wicket.

Tom Norman and Rudd handed Brid a solid start with a stand of 62 in 12.5 overs, the former dismissed for 26 from 43 balls as keeper Stuart Clark stumped the opener off the bowling of Stephen Langstaff.

Sam Wragg soon followed for 3 from 13 deliveries, but then Rudd and Calum Hatton linked up for a third-wicket stand of 76 in 13.2 overs.

All-rounder Hatton smashed two sixes and three fours in his 38 in 46 balls to bring his season’s tally in the league to an excellent 758, making him the leading club run-scorer for 2026.

Rudd was then joined by Will Watts, the pair sharing the biggest partnership of the match for the hosts, 97 in 13.3 overs, for the fourth wicket. Watts was dismissed for 42 from 47 deliveries and Rudd was dismissed for a magnificent 114 from 124 balls the following over, the skipper having struck one six and 12 fours.

When Harvey Dixon swiftly followed for 6, the hosts had slipped from 252-3 to 260-6, but late cameos from Will Norman (17 in 15 balls) and Tim Atkin (19 from 11 deliveries) steered Brid to a strong total of 302-8 from their 50 overs.

Ayana Siriwardhana and Will Jenkins took 3-64 apiece for the visitors.

Jamie Boynton’s excellent opening spell of 3-21 from five overs had Sessay rocking, the away team sliding to 39-3.

All-rounder Siriwardhana held the Sessay innings together with a brilliant knock of 91, being offered strong support by Simon Mason (36) and Tom Sowerby (28), but the top-scorer’s dismissal by Ben Traves sparked a mini-collapse from 209-5 to 220-8.

Despite the best efforts of Clark (42no), Sessay fell short on 283-9, Traves finishing with 2-58 and Tom Norman 2-32, while Rudd also collected a wicket to cap a great all-round day for the captain.

Brid finished second-from-bottom in the division and are relegated to the Championship for the 2027 season.
