SATURDAY DIV 3: Goal Sports crush Eastway to seal promotion

Goal Sports wrapped up promotion as runners-up in their debut season in the Scarborough News League Division Three with a 12-0 win at 10-man Eastway Sports.

Mike Grayshan scored the only goal of the first half just before half-time and added a second shortly after the interval, then Mark Plumpton’s side cut loose with Kieran Friett and George Friend both smacking in hat-tricks.

Tom Wilde scored from the penalty spot, while Niall Prentice, Tyson Stubbings also netted with player-boss Plumpton scoring the goal of the game with a left-footed strike from 20 yards.

Plumpton said: “I am delighted that we have gained promotion in our first season, I never expected this when we started out and although it is a shame we missed out on the chance of beating Rosette to the title after our goalless draw in midweek with Sherburn it is still great to have got to a cup final and gone up.”

Eastway chief Steve Mainprize praised all 10 players in his patched-up home side, while right wing-back Dan Pickard was the Goal Sports man of the match.

Hunmanby United Reserves earned a 4-3 home win against Fishburn Park Reserves.

Reggie Smith banged in two goals for United, with Steve Pratt and Max Wood also notching and Ben Sutton their man of the match.

An own goal, a Joe Crowther effort and Alex Wiggins’ strike kept Park in the game, with Arran Cook their star performer.

Itis Itis Rovers’ resurgence continued with a 4-0 win at Westover Wasps Reserves.

Sam Broadbent opened the scoring for Rovers in the first half with a fine finish from inside the box after a clever free-kick from Luke Jones.

The visitors doubled their lead after the break when sub Sam Pickard drilled his shot into the bottom corner, then Shaun Wood side-footed the ball past his own keeper from Sean Bloom’s Cross, sealing the win for the away side.

Bloom then completed the scoring with a composed finish in a one-on-one with the Wasps keeper after a good through-ball from Neil Forsyth.

Niall Gibb was named as Rovers man of the match with centre-back Josh Beach the Westover star man.

Wasps boss Rob McPherson said: “Credit where it’s due to the Itis Itis lads, they’re definitely the team to watch for next season.”

Sleights Reserves romped to a 23-1 win at Filey Town 3rds, who started with eight men and finished the game with seven due to an injury.

Jim Niel, Simon Taylor, Ryan Roe and Rob Ingham scored four goals apiece for the visitors, Tom Kilpatrick also scoring a hat-trick and Mike Dent adding a brace.

Spencer Hewison and Taylor Humble also scored, with Niel the man of the match.
