SATURDAY LEAGUE: Pier stun Edgehill in season opener

Johnny McGough's West Pier Reserves side hammered title favourites Edgehill Reserves 9-2 on the opening day of the 2020/21 Saturday League season.

McGough's men cruised to victory courtesy of four goals from Terry Day, a George Wilson hat-trick, Harrie Leighton's strike from the edge of the box and a Matty Hillman effort.

Wilson was West Pier's star man, with Day and Leighton also impressing.

It was a day to forget for Alec Coulson's Edgehill side, whose goals came from Josh Fergus and Jake Reeves.

Newcomers Flamborough and Westover Wasps played out a thrilling 4-4 draw.

Flamborough's goals came courtesy of a Josh Wood brace and strikes from Oli Robinson and Ross Pearson, while their star man was left-back Louis Leddy.

The returning Wasps were thankful to prolific striker Zac Hansen, who rattled in a hat-trick, with their other goal scored by man of the match Chris Hannam.

Scalby Reserves started the season with a strong 5-2 home win against Newlands Reserves.

New signing Tommy Day banged in three goals for Steve Marsh and Jez Clifford's side, who also had their man of the match Sam Foy and sub Rob Speight on target.

Lee Cappleman struck both goals for Jamie Gallagher's Newlands side.

Goal Sports got under way with a 4-3 win over returning FC Rosette.

Jordan Padgham hit two for the victors, with Paul Nuttall and Alfie Hutchinson also finding the back of the net, while Luke Foster, Dane Robinson and Mark Craven scored for Rosette.

Filey Town Reserves returned to the Scarborough League with a 2-1 success against Seamer Reserves.

Jonny Hunter and Joe Gage sealed the win for Dan Kempson's side, with youngster Jenson Bradbury on target for Seamer.

Turks Head v Eastfield Athletic was postponed.
